Koji Harano obtained his Ph.D. in chemistry at The University of Tokyo in 2007. After postdoctoral work at Tohoku University, he became an Assistant Professor at the Department of Chemistry in The University of Tokyo in 2007. In 2015, he was appointed as a Project Associate Professor of Molecular Technology Innovation Presidential Endowed Chair Laboratory and the Department of Chemistry, The University of Tokyo. In 2022, he moved to National Institute for Materials Science (Tsukuba, Japan) as a principal researcher in Electron Microscopy Group organized by Dr. Koji Kimoto. His current research interests are the development of new electron microscopic techniques for imaging of self-assembled materials and their application to construction of functional materials. He received the Chemical Society of Japan Award for Young Chemists in 2016, the Young Scientists’ Prize from the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, Japan, in 2019.
